A Squeeze Is All It Needs

09/08/2020

One of the benefits in using our KEY-LOCK® Suspended Ceiling System is that majority of components do not require mechanical tools to install them. In fact, many are designed that way and only work effectively if they are installed by hand.

This includes our popular 2534 Suspension Clip. Used by Contractors for many years, its primary purpose is to connect the Rondo 121 Suspension Rod (supported from the substrate above) to the Top Cross Rail below.

IT’S ALL ABOUT HAVING THAT CONNECTION

The Suspension Clip is designed with the holes offset to ensure the rod is firmly held in place. The connection is dependent on how the tabs of the clip ‘bite’ into the rod.  The ‘bite’ of the clip into the rod holds the clip in place to carry the nominated loads. This connection is important and needs to be installed using the correct method.  The ‘bite’ into the rod also needs to be done at the right angle and inserted into the rod at the correct depth.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN OVER BENDING THE TABS OCCURS?

Over bending of the tabs means that the tabs bite into the rod at the wrong angle.

The correct method is to squeeze the tabs by placing them between your thumb and fore finger, and then sliding our 121 Suspension Rod through the holes in the tab.

Squeezing the tabs with tools or instruments (anything other than your hand) is incorrect and could cause the ceiling system to fail. This method may bend the tabs out of their original position causing deformation to the clip and failure to hold the rod as designed and specified by Rondo. Doing so will void the Rondo Product Warranty.

WHAT IF I SUBSTITUTE THE ROD?
Rondo’s 121 Rod is a 5mm Soft Galvanised Suspension Rod designed for our Suspended Ceilings.  The Rondo 121 Rod is specifically designed and tested for our system and other manufacturers may produce product to different specifications which are not tested with our systems.

By substituting the Rondo 121 Rod with a rod from a different supplier, you may jeopardise onsite safety and system performance. This is particularly important when it comes to ceiling systems and their ‘safety critical’ application.

WANT TO SEE OUR TESTING IN ACTION?

We’ve put our 121 Rod, 2534 Suspension Clip and Top Cross Rail to the test time and time again. Here we show you how when the clip and rod are installed correctly, they hold loads up to a huge weight. We won’t give the amount away, click here to see for yourself.
