Built & Tested to Perform: Full-Scale Seismic Testing with Leading Institutions

07/05/2025

Last week, we put our steel wall and ceiling framing to the test—literally.

Participating in a QuakeCoRE initiative in partnership with the University of Auckland and the University of Canterbury, we ran full-scale seismic testing at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) in Taiwan, one of the world’s most active earthquake zones.

We tested real-world framing applications, using insights gathered directly from builders, contractors, and architects to focus on what really matters on site:

✔️ Compliance you can trust – meeting code requirements with confidence
✔️ Faster installs – reducing labour time through efficient system design
✔️ Simplified materials – fewer components required without compromising performance
✔️ Practical detailing – buildable solutions consistent with current build processes
✔️ Cost-effective results – smart design that helps keep total project costs down

Paul Kim, our Group R&D Manager, was on the ground for the testing and best summed it up:

“This initiative focuses on developing methodologies and models to quantify whole-of-building seismic performance. Our involvement in this collaborative research has been instrumental in deepening our understanding of building resilience and performance under seismic loading.

We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in QuakeCoRE’s testing in collaboration with the University of Auckland and the University of Canterbury.”

Testing in world-class facilities and gathering of critical performance data will further enhance the reliability of Rondo’s engineered solutions for better, faster, and safer builds.

At Rondo, we’re proud to be behind the best buildings—backed by real world testing, using real customer feedback, and delivering real results.
