Most people assume that the buildings they live in, stay in, or receive care in are constructed using wall and ceiling systems that meet NCC fire performance requirements.
That assumption relies on those systems being properly tested and verified.
a) Untested Imported Steel being used in Fire-Rated Walls & Ceilings
In the First Edition, we highlighted the importance of using steel products that fully comply with NCC Specification C2D9 for fire-rated walls and ceilings. We also outlined our partnerships with Knauf and CSR to design and test integrated systems that deliver reliable fire performance.
Both Knauf and CSR use Rondo steel in their fire tests and publish the tested systems in their respective technical manuals. As our review of imported steel found several differences between Rondo and imported steel products, including BMT, it would mean these untested products cannot necessarily replace Rondo steel used in Knauf and CSR fire-rated system.
