Project Details

  • Builder: Baulderstone
  • Contractor: Brighton Australia
  • Location: Sydney University
  • Project Value: $110 million

The Sydney Law School, which is a flagship building for Sydney University, moved into its new state-of-the-art building in March 2009.

Regarded as one of Australia’s leading law schools, it provides prestigious and well-equipped accommodation, and offers the highest quality teaching and research facilities for students and staff.

The Sydney Law School project consisted of:

• Two levels of basement car park
• Two levels of seminar rooms, lecture theatres, staff offices, administration areas, and a law library
• A five storey Faculty Building consisting of graduate research spaces and faculty offices
• A three storey Teaching Building, consisting of additional seminar rooms and other teaching facilities
• A 13m tall stainless steel and glass Light Tower/p>

The Light Tower is used to direct sunlight into the library below and its complex shape, with varying angles for each steel column, required careful coordination and quality control between the steel, concrete and glass subcontractors.
